In a candid interview, Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco opened up about his mindset as the team kicked off training camp in preparation for the 2024 season. With star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and standout receiver Xavier Worthy already making waves on the practice field, there is no shortage of excitement surrounding the Chiefs as they look to defend their title.
While much attention has been focused on the dynamic passing game led by Mahomes, the running game played a pivotal role in the team’s success last season and is expected to be a major factor once again in 2024.
Despite sharing carries last season, Pacheco still managed to rank 18th in rushing yards, showcasing his talent and versatility as a running back. Now entering his third season in the league, Pacheco has not only embraced his role on the field but has also taken on a leadership role within the team, inspiring and motivating his teammates.
“I come in here every day unsatisfied,” Pacheco declared in a press conference on July 23. “It’s about getting 1% better each day and finding that edge. I challenge myself to improve in some aspect of my game every single day.”
With career-high numbers of 205 carries for 935 yards and seven touchdowns in the 2023 season, Pacheco has proven himself as a key contributor to the Chiefs’ offense. Despite the presence of other talented running backs on the roster, including Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Deneric Prince, among others, Pacheco remains focused on pushing himself and elevating his game to new heights.
“I may not always be on the field, but I am constantly seeking ways to improve,” Pacheco explained. “Whether it’s getting extra reps on the sideline or studying film, every opportunity to get better matters. My unsatisfied mindset is what drives me to succeed, and I am committed to achieving our team’s goals in the upcoming season.”
As the Chiefs aim to become the first team to repeat as champions since the 2004-05 New England Patriots, Pacheco’s determined attitude and relentless work ethic could be the driving force behind their success. With a talented roster and a focused mindset, the Chiefs are poised to make a strong push for another Super Bowl title in the 2024 season.
