As the Carolina Panthers gear up for the upcoming NFL season, they are facing a sudden setback with starting quarterback Andy Dalton sidelined due to injury. The veteran quarterback missed Thursday night’s Fan Fest at Clemson University, leaving the Panthers in search of a new backup quarterback.
Coach Dave Canales confirmed the news to reporters, stating that Dalton will be out for at least a couple of weeks. This unfortunate turn of events has forced the Panthers to explore their options for a reliable backup quarterback with experience.
“In his second year with the Panthers, Dalton’s absence at Fan Fest was certainly felt,” Canales remarked. “We’re looking to get him back on the field as soon as possible, but in the meantime, we need to address our quarterback depth.”
Undrafted rookie Jack Plummer stepped up during Wednesday’s practice, taking on additional reps alongside the starting quarterback Bryce Young. Canales commended Plummer’s efforts, acknowledging the rookie’s nerves but also his ability to settle in and make plays.
“Jack’s going to see a lot of action in the upcoming practices, and we are evaluating our options to bring in another quarterback in the interim,” Canales explained.
With Dalton’s injury sidelining him for the foreseeable future, the Panthers are considering several free agent quarterbacks, including Ryan Tannehill, Trevor Siemian, AJ McCarron, Blaine Gabbert, and Brian Hoyer. Each quarterback brings a unique skill set and experience to the table, but the Panthers must make a decision soon to solidify their quarterback depth.
After the disappointment of Dalton’s injury, the Panthers will have a day off on Friday to regroup before gearing up for their next practice. The search for a new backup quarterback continues as the Panthers aim to fill the void left by Dalton’s absence and ensure they have a reliable option behind center for the upcoming season.
