San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is fully focused on the present, setting aside any thoughts of a future payday as he prepares for the upcoming season with determination and dedication.
While contract negotiations with teammates Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams loom large, Purdy remains unfazed as he is still a year away from being eligible for an extension. In an interview with Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Purdy emphasized the importance of staying grounded and focused on the task at hand.
“Guys talk about it within the locker room and stuff, and so we all end up hearing about it,” Purdy said. “But for me, that’s so far down the road with my situation. And for me, I’ve got to be present right now, right here at camp. I’ve got to be better and grow right now so that I can be the best I can be for this team this year.”
Purdy’s impressive performance in the 2023 season, where he set a single-season franchise record with 4,280 passing yards in 16 games, solidified his position as a top quarterback in the league. Leading all signal-callers with a 113.0 passer rating and an average of 9.6 yards per attempt, Purdy’s abilities on the field speak for themselves.
As the Niners made a run to the Super Bowl with Purdy at the helm, any doubts about his future with the team were put to rest. Now, with his sights set on a championship, Purdy is fully committed to bringing the Lombardi Trophy to San Francisco.
“Obviously, we have a goal at hand, going all the way, and winning, and finishing it,” Purdy stated. “So that’s where my mindset’s at. To be caught up in the money and the stats, all that kind of stuff down the road, I’d be wrong if that’s where my mindset was at, and so it’s not.”
With Purdy’s unwavering focus on the present and determination to lead his team to victory, the 49ers are poised for another successful season under his leadership. As contract negotiations continue with other players, Purdy remains a shining example of dedication and professionalism in the NFL.
