Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is back and ready to prove himself in his second year in the NFL after being plagued by injuries during his rookie season. The 22-year-old is feeling more confident and in control this offseason working under the guidance of coach Shane Steichen’s system.
“It’s definitely easier to manage our offense now,” Richardson expressed during training camp, as reported by The Associated Press. “I’m a lot more comfortable, a lot more comfortable with the call Shane is calling in. It has been good so far — making plays with the offense, diving deeper into the offense and learning a lot more, and then just trying to take advantage of the defense.”
Richardson’s rookie year was marred by injuries, appearing in only four games before his season was cut short by a shoulder injury in Week 5. Despite the setback, the time spent observing from the sidelines gave Richardson a new perspective on how to lead the offense.
The young quarterback has been showing a strong connection with his wide receivers during camp, signaling improved communication and understanding between the players.
“The communication is definitely, has advanced for us. Last year was more so, ‘OK, follow the read, do this,'” Richardson observed. “Now it’s like, ‘OK if the defense does this, now I want you to think about this right here.’ Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But it’s just trying to find ways to tweak our offense and get comfortable with each other. But I definitely feel like there’s been a huge jump from last year to this year.”
With Richardson fully healthy and feeling more in tune with the offense and his teammates, the Colts are optimistic about what he can bring to the team in his sophomore season. As the young QB continues to grow and develop, fans are eagerly anticipating his progress on the field.
