In a flurry of moves, the Carolina Panthers are gearing up for their preseason roster reshuffle as they return to practice on Tuesday. Rookie running back Dillon Johnson, who helped the team score their first touchdown since Christmas Eve, didn’t make the cut for the preseason roster.
The Panthers are bolstering their cornerback depth with recent signings as they prepare for their upcoming exhibition finale against the Buffalo Bills. After suffering a 15-12 loss to the New York Jets, the Panthers are making changes to stay competitive in the rebuilding phase.
Following Monday’s practice session, the Panthers announced the signings of free-agent cornerbacks Quandre Mosely and Chris Wilcox to address the depleted cornerback room. Mosley brings experience from various NFL teams including the Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while Wilcox has suited up for the Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Los Angeles Chargers. Wilcox was a seventh-round draft pick by the Bucs in 2021.
In order to make room for the new signings, the Panthers made some roster moves, including placing Brown and quarterback Jake Luton on injured reserve, waiving injured wide receiver Tayvion Robinson, and cutting Johnson. Additionally, the Panthers re-signed cornerback Willie Drew, wide receiver Sam Pinckney, and rookie running back Jaden Shirden, who had been involved in the offseason program.
It’s clear that the Panthers are making strategic moves to strengthen their roster as they head into the preseason finale against the Bills. With new faces like Mosely and Wilcox in the mix, the Panthers are looking to solidify their secondary and compete at a higher level. As the team continues to rebuild, these signings could be the key to their success in the upcoming season.
