Philadelphia Eagles guard Mekhi Becton had everyone holding their breath during training camp as he had to leave practice prematurely due to an injury scare. However, today, the big man is back on the field, boosting hopes that he will be a key starter for the team.
The Eagles practice on Monday, August 19, was marked by a series of injuries, with Becton being one of the casualties. According to CBS Sports, Becton walked off during team drills, ultimately exiting practice with a lower right leg injury. Thankfully, post-practice evaluations revealed that the injury is not serious.
Guard Landon Dickerson also had a tough day at practice, visibly hobbling, but he has shown his resilience by not missing a single day of camp despite any nagging injuries.
Becton, drafted by the Jets with the 11th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, was considered a promising prospect due to his exceptional size, standing at a towering 6’7″ and weighing in at 364 pounds. Although he had a strong showing at the combine, his time in New York was marred by health issues, leading to his departure from the team.
Despite his success in college, where he showed exceptional reliability by starting most games for Louisville, Becton’s NFL career has been marred by injuries. After only playing one game in his second season and missing the entire 2022 season, he finally had a full year in 2023 with the Jets before parting ways with the team. Seeking a fresh start, Becton signed with the Eagles in the offseason and is hoping to make the most of this opportunity.
With his injury scare in training camp behind him, Becton is focused on making an impact and solidifying his position as a key player for the Eagles as they gear up for the upcoming season.
