In what was once seen as a promising future with the Tennessee Titans, Malik Willis is now saying goodbye to Nashville and hello to Green Bay.
The Titans have decided to trade Willis to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a 2025 NFL Draft seventh-round pick, according to a report from NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport on Monday.
With Will Levis firmly established as the starting quarterback for the Titans and Mason Rudolph, a free-agent acquisition this offseason who has impressed in training camp, now solidified as the backup, Willis is seeking to make his mark in Green Bay.
As of now, Jordan Love is the Packers’ starting QB with Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt as the backups. However, neither of them showed much during the preseason, which led to the acquisition of Willis in hopes of providing a more experienced option.
In the 2022 draft class, Willis was pegged by many as a potential first-round talent. However, he slipped to the third round where he was the third QB selected. This draft class saw Kenny Pickett go in the first round to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Desmond Ridder to the Cincinnati Bengals, and others like Matt Corral and Sam Howell have also found new homes. Interestingly, the final pick of that draft, Brock Purdy, remains with the San Francisco 49ers.
Despite limited playing time, Willis has shown flashes of potential in his 11 games with three starts over two seasons. As a rookie, he went 1-2 as a starter and completed 53% of his passes for 350 yards without throwing a touchdown. However, he has showcased his mobility by rushing for 144 yards and a touchdown.
The trade marks a new chapter in Willis’ career as he looks to make an impact with the Packers and prove that he can be a valuable asset in the NFL. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
