Surviving is the name of the game when it comes to NFL survivor pools. Each week, contestants must choose one NFL team to win their matchup. If they are correct, they advance to the next week. But if they lose, their fun in the pool is over. Simple, right? Well, there’s a catch – you can only pick a team once throughout the season, so strategic planning is key.
“You don’t want to unload the clip on the stronger teams too early or else you’ll be counting on crappy ones to get the job done later in the year,” advises Logan. “You’ll also want to avoid following the flock with the most popular pick. One bad game can wipe out a good chunk of contestants and zigging when everyone zags is a good way to thin out the herd.”
In the upcoming Week 1 matchups, Logan zeroes in on two key games. The first involves the Buffalo Bills facing off against the Arizona Cardinals. Despite his reservations about the Bills this season, Logan believes that taking them early on is a safe play.
“I’m down on Buffalo this season, so tossing it away early into the pool isn’t a tragedy,” says Logan. “The Bills could be one of those popular picks that burn half the field later in the season, but not against the Cardinals. Arizona’s defense has its hands full with Josh Allen & Co.”
The second matchup Logan highlights is the Cincinnati Bengals taking on the New England Patriots. The Bengals are the most popular survivor pool pick for Week 1, with over 40% of contestants backing them.
“And why not?” asks Logan. “The Bengals are a solid choice with a moneyline odds of -450, giving them an implied win probability of 81.82%. They are a strong team facing a Patriots squad in transition.”
As the season kicks off, survivor pool participants will need to heed Logan’s advice and make smart, calculated picks to stay alive in the competition.
