The Cleveland Browns made a surprising move by cutting former third-round pick David Bell, but despite his release, the wide receiver may not be out of a job for long. Bell, who initially made the Browns’ 53-man roster, didn’t even make it to Week 1 before being let go. After two lackluster seasons in Cleveland, where he only managed 38 receptions for 381 yards and three touchdowns in 31 games, the Purdue product found himself looking for a new team.
While Bell’s time in Cleveland may have come to an end, it is unlikely to be the end of the road for the young receiver. With several teams in need of help at the wide receiver position, there is a good chance Bell will find a new home soon. Whether it’s signing with a team’s active roster or joining a practice squad, Bell is not short on potential suitors.
One potential landing spot for Bell could be with the New England Patriots. The Patriots have embraced a youth movement this season, with a group of young receivers leading the charge. While they have promising talents like Tyquan Thornton, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Demario Douglas, adding a veteran presence like Bell could provide some stability to the group.
Another team that could benefit from Bell’s services is the Carolina Panthers. Despite adding talent in the offseason, the Panthers still lack depth at the receiver position. With the recent departure of Terrace Marshall, Bell could compete for a spot on an offense that is in need of reliable targets for their young quarterback.
The Los Angeles Chargers have been struggling with mediocre wide receiver play, despite having a dynamic quarterback in Justin Herbert. Bringing in Bell could give Herbert another option to throw to and help bolster the receiving corps.
Lastly, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in need of help at the receiver position, especially after missing out on Brandon Aiyuk. With a star in the making in George Pickens, the Steelers could benefit from adding a player like Bell to their practice squad and potentially developing him into a playmaker.
In the end, Bell’s release from the Browns may just be the beginning of a new chapter in his NFL career. With several teams in need of help at wide receiver, it won’t be long before Bell finds a new home in the league.
