In Week 1, Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys offense were seen nibbling at their food, cautiously taking small bites. However, as they gear up for their home opener against the New Orleans Saints, Prescott is ready to feast on bigger portions of success.
The Cowboys’ performance in the 33-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns left much to be desired. With just 265 total yards, a 4 of 14 conversion rate on third downs, and only one red zone appearance out of 12 non-end-of-half possessions, the offense struggled to find their rhythm. The reliance on field goals from Brandon Aubrey highlighted Prescott’s frustration as drives repeatedly stalled out.
Looking ahead to Week 2, Prescott emphasized the need for improved execution. “We weren’t able to put that team away when we had the chance,” he reflected. “Defense did a great job of it but, for us, it’s about moving forward.”
For Prescott, the key against New Orleans will be converting those crucial third downs. With only three drives in Week 1 generating more than one first down, none of which occurred after halftime, the offense needs to maintain momentum to complement the dominant defense. “We’re one of the best third down teams we’ve been, so it’s about getting back on track with that [and] converting those,” Prescott explained.
By converting more third downs, the Cowboys hope to unlock their full offensive potential. “When you do, you get more chances at the plate, you get more plays and that’s when just the big plays come naturally in our offense,” Prescott noted. With a focus on improving their conversion rate, Prescott and the Cowboys are eager to showcase their explosive playmaking abilities against the Saints.
