New Orleans Saints star linebacker Demario Davis, known for his ferocious style of play, will be sitting out his first game in his 13-year career due to a hamstring injury. This news came straight from the mouth of head coach Dennis Allen, who made the announcement on Friday ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.
“We’re not gonna put anybody out there that we feel like we’re putting at risk of injuring themselves,” Allen emphasized. “Nobody, especially guys like that… We had to do that same thing with Cam (Jordan) at one point in time. With all these things, you’re always just looking at what’s the proper thing to do, what’s the right thing to do for the player and for the team. That’s all that goes into any of those type of decisions.”
For a player as aggressive and impactful as Davis, his durability has been remarkable. The linebacker has been the anchor of the Saints’ defense for the past seven seasons, showcasing his ability to shut down the run, cover ground in the open field, and disrupt opposing offenses with well-timed blitzes. His tough-mindedness and willingness to play through pain have been evident throughout his career, making his absence on game day even more significant.
Despite his absence, the show must go on for the Saints as they prepare to face off against the Falcons and their dynamic running back, Bijan Robinson. With Davis sidelined, the team will need to rely on their depth and resilience to fill the void left by their defensive stalwart. It will be a challenge, but one that the Saints are no doubt prepared to tackle head-on.
