In the wake of a disappointing loss to the Tennessee Titans, Mike McDaniel, head coach of the struggling Miami Dolphins, alluded to potential changes for his team. However, one thing that will remain unchanged is the decision to have Tyler Huntley start at quarterback for Week 5 against the New England Patriots, with Tua Tagovailoa sidelined due to a concussion.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, McDaniel confirmed that Huntley will once again lead the offense as the Dolphins seek to turn their season around. “With Tua out for at least two more games, we believe that Tyler gives us the best chance to win,” stated McDaniel.
In addition to the quarterback situation, McDaniel revealed that veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who had been on the physically unable to perform list, is set to begin his 21-day practice window this week. Beckham’s return could provide a much-needed boost to the Dolphins’ offense.
Huntley’s performance in the previous game was less than stellar, as he completed 14-of-22 passing attempts for just 96 yards. Despite adding 40 yards and a touchdown on the ground, the Dolphins suffered a demoralizing 31-12 defeat at Hard Rock Stadium, leading to resounding boos from the disappointed crowd.
The quarterback situation has been a point of contention for the Dolphins, as neither Huntley nor Skylar Thompson, who started in Week 3, have been able to match Tagovailoa’s level of play. When asked whether the offense relied too heavily on Tagovailoa’s skills, McDaniel acknowledged the challenges of adjusting to different quarterbacks.
As the Dolphins prepare to face the Patriots in Week 5, the pressure is mounting for McDaniel and his team to find a winning formula. With Huntley at the helm and Beckham’s potential return on the horizon, Miami is hoping to bounce back and salvage their season before it’s too late.
