Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon is on the cusp of making his highly anticipated return to the field. After suffering a high ankle sprain in Week 2 against the Bears, Mixon has sat out the past three games. However, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, he is expected to make his comeback this Sunday against the New England Patriots.
Initially, Mixon missed practice on Wednesday but managed to participate in limited sessions later in the week, earning a questionable status for the upcoming game. The Texans are eager to have him back in the lineup as they have struggled to find his level of production in his absence.
In the early part of the season, Mixon showed great promise in Houston’s run scheme. In his first game with the team, he rushed for 159 yards and a touchdown, helping secure a 29-27 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Despite being sidelined for the past three games, Mixon still leads the team in rushing yards with 184.
During Mixon’s absence, Cam Akers and Dare Ogunbowale did their best to fill the void in the backfield. Together, they managed to gain 188 yards on the ground, with Ogunbowale also contributing significantly in the passing game with 155 receiving yards.
As Mixon gears up for his return, the Texans are hopeful that he can pick up right where he left off and help propel the team to success once again. Fans and teammates alike are eagerly anticipating his comeback as he looks to make a significant impact in the upcoming game against a tough Patriots defense.
