The New York Jets made headlines with their shocking decision to fire head coach Robert Saleh, but that did not stop them from making a significant move to bolster their offense. Just seven days after the surprising firing and less than 24 hours after a tough loss to the Bills, the Jets successfully completed a trade for star wide receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders.
According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Jets have agreed to take on the remainder of Adams’ hefty salary in order to finalize the deal. Adams is set to earn $16.89 million in base salary, along with $510,000 in per-game active roster bonuses. The Jets will absorb the prorated amount of $11.6 million to bring Adams to New York.
Adams has had a stellar career thus far, particularly during his time with quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. The duo has been incredibly productive, accumulating an impressive 7,517 yards and 68 touchdowns on 615 completions since they began playing together in 2014. However, their performance reached new heights in the last four seasons, where they led the NFL in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns as a tandem from 2018 to 2021.
The Jets are hoping that Adams can bring that same level of elite play to New York and help reignite their offense. Saleh’s tenure in New York came to an end after a disappointing 2-3 start to the season, with the team struggling to find its identity on the field.
Despite the challenges the Jets have faced, including a coaching change and a shaky start to the season, the addition of Adams has raised hopes for a potential playoff run and beyond. The star wide receiver’s arrival brings a sense of optimism to a team looking to turn things around and make a push for success in the remainder of the season.
