Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins, who was off to a blazing start in the 2024 season, has unfortunately hit a snag in the form of a hamstring injury. Head coach DeMeco Ryans broke the news to reporters on Monday, revealing that Collins is now considered week to week after sustaining the injury during the Texans’ victory over the Buffalo Bills.
Collins, who currently leads the league in receiving yards with an impressive 567, suffered the hamstring injury in the second quarter of Sunday’s game. Prior to the injury, he was showcasing his skills with two early catches for 78 yards, including a spectacular 67-yard touchdown connection with quarterback C.J. Stroud.
The absence of Collins was keenly felt by the Texans’ offense, which struggled to put points on the board, managing just nine points on three field goals. However, one of those kicks was a game-winning 59-yarder as time expired.
In the event that Collins is sidelined for an extended period, it is likely that Stroud will turn his attention to targeting veteran receiver Stefon Diggs, who has already recorded 31 catches for 315 yards and two touchdowns this season. Second-year wideout Tank Dell and tight end Dalton Schultz, who have 13 and 14 receptions respectively, are also options for Stroud, along with pass-catching running back Dare Ogunbowale, who has 15 receptions to his name.
Despite the setback, the Texans are optimistic about their offensive weapons stepping up in Collins’ absence and continuing to make an impact on the field. As they navigate through this challenging period, the team will be looking to maintain their winning momentum and push onward in the season.
